English Abstract

rk, budding of square columns (10*10) mm with different lengths {l2O*640>mm under differeni dynamic loads is investigated by using the anafyticaI and experimental approaches, Three carbon steel cdu-mns DIN (GK4S, CK673CK101) of different slencfemess ratios were studied in the elastic and inelastic buckling phenomenon.

A new tool {liquid nitridingj used in this work to improve the buckling resistance of materials used in this research.

The present study shewed experiments Ny that the use of the nitride case hardening increases the buckling resistance and improves the number of failure cycles, for (CMS) steel, an-d the number of the failure cycles increased from (2) to (3.^) cycle.

The results also showed that the thickness of the nitride case hardening plays an important factor in buckling resistance, an-d for fCKlOD steel, the resistance gain increased from [16,52%) at

The percentage increase In bucklfng resistance of different columns used in this research using the nitride case hardening, showed that (CK101J steel is the best material compared With (CK67, CK46) aieeJs.

The resistance gain for (CK1Q1) Steal is (15.5%) compared with (CK67) steel (10.53%) and [CKd$) stool (0.1%) when the case hardening thickness is approximately the same.

An expression has beeh derived to calculate the actual buckling work depending on the Ramberg -Osgood parameters as well as the buckling parameters.

Also, an expression derived for the nitride case - hardened steel including the thickness of the nitride case hardening, moreover, i* separates the theoretical plastic work from the actual work.

Therefore, it seems a good tool and first step In the development of a general approach to investigate the buckling actual work with and without the nitride case hardening .
