English Abstract

Throughout this investigation ; the corrosion of Aluminum and Copper metals in single and couple conditions was studied in 1M HCL solution under different temperatures ( 30 , 40 and 50 ˚C).

Potentiostatic polarization studies were performed for single metals and when they are couple (Al–Cu) with an equal area of cathode and anode.

Two types of inhibitors at different concentrations were used from polymers materials as Alizarin, 5 x10-5, 1x 10-4, 5x 10-4, 1 x10-3 and 5 x 10-3 M and Hexadecyl Trim ethyl Ammonium Bromide, 2x 10-6, 4x10-6, 8x10-6 and 12x10-6 M.

The corrosion potential of single metals was monitored by measuring the open circuit potential with time.

The corrosion potential increases with increasing time going to constant value and show the direction of current flow in a galvanic action.

Experimental results showed that corrosion rate of Al and Cu metals and galvanic corrosion rate is under mixed control .The corrosion rate and galvanic corrosion rate increase with temperature increasing and decrease with increasing in concentration of the inhibitors used.

The inhibition efficiency was found to increase up to 81 % and 70 % with increase inhibitor concentration to 0.005 M for AYGG and 12x10-6 for CTABr respectively and decreased with increasing temperature.

Results showed that the inhibition occurs through adsorption of the inhibitor molecules on the metal surface.

The adsorption of these components (polymer inhibitors) on the metal surface was found to obey Langmuir and Timken isotherm model which proved that the adsorption occurring was physical.

The Langmuir isotherm gives a good fitting for experimental data and clear indication on the nature of adsorption.
