English Abstract

The heat transfer by natural convection in a cubic enclosure tilted from horizontal with two baffles was investigated experimentally.

The baffles were attached to the isothermal vertical walls at symmetric positions while the remainder walls are adiabatic.

The isothermal walls were at different temperatures.

The experimental study included manufacturing a cubic enclosure with a length of (30 cm) with and without baffles.

Two groups of experiments were represented.

The first one was without baffle, while the second was with baffles to study the effect of length and thermal conductively of baffles on heat transfer.

The dimensionless of the baffles length were (0.5, 0.6, and 0.7), and relative conductivities of the baffles were (4.5, 10.4, and 16.8).

The tests were carried out for inclination angles (0o, 45o, 90o, 135o, and 180) at a Rayleigh number range (3.004 × 106) to (1.1875 × 107).

The working fluid was air.

The results showed that the average Nusselt number with a baffle was reduced when compared to the enclosure without baffle.

The percentage of reduction depends on the baffle material (22%, 14 % ).

The Nusselt number was minimum and maximum at Ф = 90o and Ф = 0o, respectively for all baffle lengths.

Generally, the Nusselt number decreased as the baffle length increased.

A number of correlations for the Nusselt with Rayleigh number were obtained according to enclosure with and without baffle and inclination angle.

Also, a general correlation for the overall Nusselt number with effective of baffle length and relative conductivity was correlated.

There was a good agreement for the present experimental work results with the other pervious work results.
