English Abstract
-Existence of harmonics within voltage and current supplied from synchronous generators can cause serious problems to the delivered electrical equipment.
Thereby, it is necessary to find a way, by which those harmonics can be analyzed and calculated, and knowing the factors which tend to increase harmonic level resulting from those generators.
This work proposes a mathematical model for 3-phase synchronous generators with computational program to analyze and calculate harmonic component ratios for both voltage and current when those generators are loaded with different load types (the generator and the loads are star connected with ground).
This model takes two main factors: rotor saliency and unbalance loading conditions.
Many different simulated results with plots (for voltage and current) have been provided by the computational program that was written using (MATLAB V7.9) at various loading cases, to show the effects of load types (inductive, capacitive, resistive or their combination) on output harmonic level.
Finally, an experimental test was achieved in the laboratory on small size three phase salient pole synchronous machine.
It had been loaded with different loads and different loading conditions (the generator and the loads are star connected with ground too).
A harmonic analyzer device was connected across each load at each case, and ratios of voltage harmonics are then recorded.
