English Abstract
-In the present thesis, an attempt has been made to investigate and simulate the influence of cutting speed, coated layers, and feed rate on the tool wear.
A series of experimental and numerical tests have been done with three types of tools coated with Titanium nitride (TiN), Titanium nitride/ Titanium carbide (TiN/TiC) and Titanium nitride/ Alumina oxide/ Titanium carbide (TiN/Al2O3/TiC).
Cutting conditions were selected to be as follows: cutting speeds ranging from (55 to 140 m/min), feed rate from (0.08 to 0.24 mm/rev) and a constant depth of cut (1.5 mm) in orthogonal machining of AISI 1045 steel.
The numerical tests are done using a special FEA code (DEFORM 2D) and is developed especially to predict the flank wear using Usui's wear rate model.
The numerical results show a good agreement with experimental one with a maximum difference of (21 %) and a minimum difference of (3.4 %).
The results show that the increase in cutting speed and feed rate leads to increase in flank wear according to selected values.
The results showed that when machining with a tool having three coated layers (TiN/Al2O3/TiC), the cutting speeds increases with 45% the flank wear increases at 14%.
