English Abstract

-Two suitable PAs for Multiband Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (MB-OFDM) and Direct Sequence Code Division Multiple Access (DS-CDMA) specifications are tested using "Microwave Office" version 3.22 package, which can be applied for the optimum performance of high linear and efficient PA requirements.

For the first part of this Thesis, the analysis of a cascoded current reused PA suitable for an MB-OFDM specification are presented.

The proposed class AB PA is able to cover the UWB frequency band from 3 GHz to 7 GHz and delivers an output power of 14.2 dBm at 4 GHz.

Simulated results show a gain of 35.5 ± 1.4dB achieved over the entire band and the PA consumes 31.82mW from a 1.8V supply with the PAE up to 17.3% in diode connected MOSFET.

Simulated results of back to back diode (a,b), anti-parallel diode, branch FET and MOSFET PD circuits shows Power gain of 37.2 ± 0.4dB appears at frequency range of interest, the PAE of branch FET circuit is reached to a maximum value of 25% at 7 GHz, while the two types of back to back diode (a,b) and anti-parallel diode have 17.5 % PAE and the MOSFET has 13.6 % PAE over the 4 GHz frequency range.

The output 1-dB compression point is 15.4 dBm at input of -20.5 dBm.

Finally, with a supply voltage of 1.8 V the total power consumed by the whole MB-OFDM PA circuit is 31.82mW.

In the second part of this Thesis, the analysis of a cascoded current reused PA with branch FET PD that meets the DS-CDMA specifications are presented.

This PA operates in class AB regime, delivering an output power of 17.7dBm with input-1dB compression point at -17dBm.

Complete design consumes a power of 53.3 mW, while realizing a flat gain of 32.2 ±0.1dB across the whole band of operation.

The PAE has a value of 20.3 % over 7 GHz frequencies
