English Abstract

The aim of this thesis is to investigate the effect of cutting tool geometry of high speed steel especially the rake angle on heat generation and residual stress in machining of AISI 1045 steel by using finite element method.

Orthogonal cutting conditions one selected using cutting speed of (60m / min) feed rate (0.2 mm / rev) and depth of cut as (0.1 mm).

The numerical tests are modeled and simulated by using the same above cutting conditions.

The numerical tests are modeled simulated using finite element code called (MSC MARC.

Mental) and the same cutting conditions using in experimental work the numerical results show a good agreement with experimental one with max relative difference of 8.6 %.

The minimum temperature and residual stress at tool-chip interface region is noticed when machining with rake angle (+10°) for both numerical and experimental test.

The maximum temperature and residual stress at tool-chip interface region is noticed when machining with rake angle (-10°) for both numerical and experimental.
