English Abstract

-Automatic Generation Control (AGC) plays a very important role in power system; its main role is to maintain the system frequency and Tie-Line flow at their scheduled values during normal period in an interconnected system.

This work presents a procedure to design a cooperative Fuzzy Logic PID controller to improve power system AGC dynamic performance.

The aim of the proposed controller is to restore the frequency to its nominal value in the shortest possible time during load demand changes.

MATLAB/SIMULINK simulation model was built to study the dynamic behavior of synchronous machine and the proposed controller.

The initial condition of the study system was specified through a power flow calculation obtained by MATLAB (version 7.10) load flow program using Newton Raphson Method.

The proposed controller was analyzed by carrying out the AGC of two test systems (two area and three area power systems).

The dynamic responses under small step load increase 1% p.u were obtained and the results of the proposed controller were compared with the conventional controller in order to verify and show the advantages of the developed controller.

Finally, the approach was tested on the Iraqi (400 kV) Super Grid Network AGC performance with a step load change of 10% p.u (the sever case) applied to the second area (BAJ4 Bus).

The results of the proposed FL-PID simulation model were compared with the conventional one.

The obtained results demonstrated the effectiveness of the proposed method in improving the dynamic performances of the network compared to those of conventional controllers settling time and overshoot.
