Abstract EN
Background /: Osseous hydrated disease is a rare but serious condition.
Most of recent years reports including few cases, one to four.
Besides that, treatment is difficult, because of the progressive course of the bone involvement and possibility of recurrence.
The purpose of this study was to determine the prevalence of complications and recurrence after the use of wide resection of the cyst and using bone graft and adjuvant antihelminthic chemotherapy.
Variability of case reports on the incidence of recurrence, complications and disability of this disease mandates further investigation.
Patients and methods : We studied the prospective consecutive series of eleven patients with hydrated bone cyst, that were treated in Emamreza, Ghaem and private hospital of Mashhad, Iran during 1989-2001.
There were eight men and three women.
The average age at the time of surgery was 31 (ranging from 8 to 68) and the average follow up was 2 to 10 years.
All of the 11 patients with hydrated cyst of the bone were treated by extensive removal of the cyst by surgery and after wide radical resection and irrigation of the cavity with hypertonic normal saline for five minutes.
The residual space was filled with bone graft and administration of aIbendazole 15 mg /pkg /day for 45 days as adjuvant chemotherapy.
Patients were followed up for 2 to 10 years and all complications and results were assessed.
