English Abstract

Modern power systems are highly complex and non-linear- and their operating conditions can vary over a wide range.

In this work, the power system (PS) transient terminal volume and frequency stability enhancement have been well investigated and studied through the following efforts. • A complete and modified fourth order model of a synchronous generator (SG) to study the transient stability response of the electrical power system grid is introduced, • Enhancing the responses of the transient stability by adopting a conventional PID controllers as an additional voltage controller with the Automatic Voltage Regulator (AVR) in the excitation system for terminal voltage and in the governing system to enhance the frequency deviation response. • ANN (NARMA-L2) system is proposed as a controller model which can be trained (on-line and off-line) in order to assure accurately that the output of this model is the desired output.

This model after training can be called as (Identifier).

This identifier follows the system behavior even in situation of high disturbances.

This identifier has been used to propose an effective neural controller depending completely in its action on the performance of this identifier to follow the system behavior in any condition of operation.

This neural network (Identifier and controller) with the automatic voltage regulator (AVR) and (PID) controller. The design of this model and the controllers was achieved through the use of MATLAB-Simulink, and the response simulation results covering the application of single machine infinite bus (SM1B) with various load There are enhancement progress in Vt and ∆ω response through the investigation for the three cases (without controller, with PID controller, and with NN controller) as illustrated in comparison tables.

The selection of simulation software, derivation of the simulation model and the implementation of the proposed model is presented in this thesis.
