English Abstract

The purpose of this study is to estimate the behavior of laterally loaded single piles installed in sandy soil.

Lateral load response of pile was predicted using a computer program.

The program used is basically a numerical solution analysis method and it's written in (FORTRAN-77) computer program language.

The soil around a pile is simulated by a series of independent nonlinear springs, each spring representing the behavior of a soil layer of unit height.

The influence of the soil on the pile is represented through load-displacement (p-y) curves model.

(Reese et al.

1974) sand model was used to construct p-y curves.

These curves were then used as an input data for the computer program to produce the results such as bending moment, soil reaction, lateral deflection at pile head, rotation of pile and lateral load.

The factors considered are the effect of pile length, pile diameter, type of sand soil, and axial load on the pile, lateral displacement at pile head and effect of water table fluctuation.

Also, the results were compared with other recent studies on cohesive -soils to show the effect of various soils on the behavior of lateral loaded piles.
