English Abstract
The movements of the main assemblies of a home sewing machine are studied in this research.
The aim is to derive a mathematical model of this machine and to analyze the synchronization movements of the machine parts during stitch formation and sewing. A sewing, machine type Singer, model 15, is selected to present the prototype sewing machine used in this research to establish the required model.
This machine is a straight lockstitch, single needle and single thread machine.
The dimensional measurements of the machine parts were achieved to enable the study of movements that affect the translation of motion.
The sub-assemblies of the sewing machine studied in this research include : 1- The needle assembly which has a reciprocating motion. 2- The hook assembly, which has an angular motion.
3-Feeding assembly, that include two sub feeding assemblies namely vertical and horizontal feeding.
4- Take up assembly, which has a reciprocating motion. Each one of the above assemblies was studied as a-stand-alone. The synchronization of the four assemblies was also studied to identify the critical points that lead to sewing stoppage.
Analysis showed that slight change in the dimensions of both take up and feeding assembly parts has minor effect on the sewing operation, though their motion is vital to achieve the stitch formation whereas the needle assembly and hook assembly are shown to be highly affected by slight changes in their detailed part dimensions.
The selection of suitable angle to set the resulting stitch length of sewing was achieved by the analysis made. Conclusions and suggestions for future work are given for completeness.
