English Abstract

The effects of cutting tool coating materials on the equivalent plastic strain at the chip, tool chip contact length; chip contraction coefficient and shear angle, depending on various cutting parameters, were investigated in this study through experiments as well as through FEA modeling- AT SI 1045 steel was processed without cooling on a lathe using four different cemented carbide cutting tools, i.

coated with TiN, coated with TiN / TiC, coated with TiN / Al2O3 / TiC and uncoated.

Among the cutting parameters, the cutting speed was kept a constant while the depth of cut and feed rate ■ were changed, This thesis focuses on the development of Finite Element modeling of coating with multi-layer coats and uncoated one. A special Finite Element code called (MSC.MARC mental 2005) is used in numerical tests and compared with experimental one, The results show good agreement with experimental tests and numerical analyses of other publishes papers. Comparisons of the predicted results are in a good agreement with experimental tests with maximum relative difference of (20 %) for the chip contraction coefficient and contact length, and (10 %) for the shear angle. The insert having two coats shows excellent result, compared to others from point of view of chip contraction coefficient, contact length and shear angle.
