English Abstract
Ferrocement is a type of thin reinforced concrete made of cement - sand mortar mixture with closely spaced of a relatively small diameter wire meshes with or without steel bars of small diameter called skeletal steel . The main aim of this study was to investigate the behaviour and flexural strength of ferrocement T - section beams under two point loads in addition to the behaviour and torsional strength of same beams under eccentricity loading. A total of 72 T - section beams were constructed and tested under flexural loads in addition to 18 T - section beams were constructed and tested under torsional loads.
All the models have (50 cm width and 4 cm thickness for the flange and 5 cm width and 21 cm height for the web). The main parameters considered in the present investigation were number of wire mesh layers in web (4, 6, 8, 10, 12 and 14), number of wire mesh layers in flange (4, 6 and 8) and span length (1, 2, 3 and 4m). The behaviour of models was monitored by reading the loads, vertical and horizontal deflection at the bottom edge of web and vertical deflection at the external edge of flange at mid-span of beams and observed the crack patterns and mode of failure. It is concluded that the ferrocement T - section beams can be used as a roofing system.
Also, it was found that increasing the number of wire mesh layers in flange tend to increase the initial cracking and ultimate loads (4-35) % and (4-28) % respectively, and increasing the number of wire mesh layers in web tend to increase the initial cracking and ultimate loads (133-210) % and (117.8-206) % respectively.
