English Abstract
This thesis deals with assessing the behavior of a sheet pile wall by ng the stresses and displacements of the sheet pile wall and surrounding soil throughout the different construction stages.
The finite Element method is used to carry out a parametric study to assess the effect of the most important factors on the behavior of sheet pile wall.
The nonlinear hyperbolic model is used to represent both the soil and interface behavior of soil-sheet pile wall system.
The analysis of sheet pile wall was carried out using a nonlinear incremental stress dependent finite element computer program capable of simulating the different construction stages of the system, A parametric study on sheet pile wall was carried out to assess the behavior of sheet pile wall constructed in medium clay.
The general behavior and the effect of some important factors such as sheet pile section, sheet pile length, anchorage, and soil characteristics are discussed 1S confirmed that increasing sheet pile stiffness reduces the deformation of sheet pile wall system, and that the use of prestressed anchors Provides better control for sheet pile wall movements, soil subsidence, and soil heave.
The results also showed that increasing depth of excavation increases seet pile wall and soil movements, while the excavation simulation does not have a clear effect on the displacements and stresses.
Also it is found that increasing the sheet pile wall length has an inverse effect on the sheet pile wall system with small sheet pile stiffness, at considering the soil as nonlinear material is more real and more economical for design.
