English Abstract

Living in the Information Age, anyone can own the word by pressing some keys on his keyboard, you always expect your communications to be monitored, sometimes modified, sometimes stolen, and may even be destroyed.

Protecting your secrets and top secrets is an important demand and there are two techniques available to those wishing to transmit secrets using unprotected communication media.

One is Cryptography where the secret message is scrambled and can be reconstituted only by the holder of the key.

The second method is Steganography where the secret message is embedded into other message with minimum degradation to the container, so the fact the secret message is being transmitted is also a secret.

In this thesis we propose a secret-key steganography system which embeds secret images into other images by mainly two embedding stages.

Stage one hides one (or two) 32 x 32, 64 x 64 or 128 x 128 256-level gray scale images into a 256x256 256-level gray-scale image using transform domain steganography techniques based on Fast Wavelet Transform (FWT).

The image results from stage one considered to be the input image to stage two.

This image is embedded into a 768 X 1024 or 1024 x 1024 256-level gray scale image using Least Significant Bits (LSBs) Substitution.

The keys are embedded using Cover Regions and Parity Bits method.

Transposition Encryption and Stream Ciphering are also used in both stages to increase security and complexity of the proposed system.

By both objective and subjective observations, the resultant stegotmage that will be transmitted did not draw any suspicion, so the main goal of steganography is fulfilled.

The proposed system is easily applied by any end user who can provide the system with his key and both embedded and cover images, and gets the stegotmage.
