English Abstract

Power System Stabilizers (PSSs) are used to generate supplementary control signals for the excitation system in order to damp the low frequency oscillations.

The need for designs of optimal controllers for excitation control has increased, to overcome the drawbacks of Conventional PSS (CPSS), numerous techniques have been proposed in the literature..

Based on the analysis of existing techniques.

This work presents a new methodology for the improvement of power system steady - state stability.

It employs Artificial Neural Network (ANN) to control Single Machine Infinite Bus (SMIB) system: during different condition, this work presents an Indirect Adaptive Neural Controller (IDNC) based PSS design.

The proposed IDNC' consists of a neuro-identifier, which is used to model the dynamics of the power system and to adapt the neurocontroller parameters and a neuro-controller, which is used to generate a supplementary control signal to the excitation system.

The proposed methods have the features of a simple structure, adaptively and fast response.

The proposed IDNC is evaluated on a SMIB power system under different operating conditions and disturbances to demonstrate its effectiveness and robustness.

In this work, the ability of MATLAB 6.5 (MATLAB/SIMULINK and MATLAB PROGRAMING) is used.
