English Abstract

Today’s world, becoming more competitive, every day is demanding from organization the flexibility to adapt themselves to the permanent situations of market change, readiness for ongoing development and guarantee of the quality of products and services.

At the same time, Internet, after being used initially as a great source of information exchange, rapidly happen to be used as an important means for providing learning and training services across the whole world.

Information Technological changes have caused the growth of electronic learning technologies that provide organizations with opportunities to redefine and / or refine existing educational activities.

The joining together of information and communication technologies and the increased reliance of organizations on such advances has caused a range of information system security issues to the face.

It has become hard for organizations to protect their information resources with confidence.

The area of IS / IT (Information System / Information Technology) security is fast evolving, and it is not only the threats and the related incidents that are increasing, but also the security products and technologies develop and change at a fast rate.

Additionally, the complexity of Internet infrastructures, such as in a Web services distributed system, can hide the potential risks of attacks, and subsequently become disadvantageous to e-learning users, applications and institutions.

This thesis is presented to provide a new model for Securing e-learning System (SES).

The main aim of the SES is to protect the copyright of e-course material from unauthorized distribution, and to protect the e-course material from being modified while transit.

The design of SES is provided to make the e-learning process more secure for both organization and students alike.

The model will be based on using public and private keys generated using a new updated and modified version of RSA (marwa) scheme.

With this proposed framework students can download e-course materials to his / her machine with the ability to work offline ; however, he / she cannot distribute or make copies of the e-course materials.

The SeS presents the design and implementation of a global e-education system that provides the fundamental security needs including confidentiality, integrity, nonrepudiation, replay protection and the most important entity authentication.

The methodology of this thesis was based on building a new secure e-learning model that based on a new updated version of RSA (mRSA) that incorporated into this e-learning model.

An implementation will be made to convert the e-learning security model into an applicable software package that could be used to automate the e-learning process concerning the secure dissemination and authentication of e-learning courses material which can be used to make the e-learning process more secure, flexible and effective.

The researcher used a lot of recourses to gather more information related to e-learning security such as: journals, published books, attending conferences, referring to specialists in security field and studying and researching current learning management system in different universities.

This thesis presents several challenges that we encountered while implementing the SeS system.

The major challenge is to find solutions to security issues at the same time a variety of innovative techniques are devolved to improve the speed, security, and scalability of the SeS system.

The system is based on the modular three Tier client\server\database architecture and guarantees portability across many hardware and software platform.

This feature is basically provided by the cross-platform capability feature of the VB.Net language.

Indeed, VB.Net Servlet technology gives the system the very important multithreading feature.

MS-Access database and ASP.Net along with the HTML language were also used for the SeS system implementation.

The system had been successfully installed and tested.
