English Abstract

With the increased dependence on the information systems to run the different parts of our life, and the increased potential of cyber-attack on these systems, a great need appears to improve the education and training of individuals responsible for defending and protecting these systems.

The main purpose of any training is to improve the skills of the trainer; normally the best is the one who has the highest scores in the end.

To do so, toying different kind of weapons (computer software) and selecting the one which gives the good result is important.

These tools are the weapons which will be used to defend and attack the targets in the laboratory.

Some of these tools are available in the open market, the other kind of tools might be designed by the trainers themselves and evaluate it in this isolated laboratory before using it in the open world.

The thesis presents the different security threats in networks and internet.

The major issues of information warfare from the attack and defender point of view are also presented.

The threats together with the information warfare concepts and design are very important for any trained peoples.

This thesis describes the outline of the framework for information warfare simulation using designed laboratory for this purpose.

Six types of attack and defense systems have been simulated and investigated.

In attack system these include password cracking and sniffing, e-mail activities (bombs and worms), viruses, and port scanning.

However, in the defense system, these include intrusion detection, security check, network monitoring, e-mail protection, virus scanning and confidentiality, the information warfare lab has been designed for network lab to demonstrate the activities.

However / because of Jack of devices only pcer-to-peer PCs have been used in the implementation.
