English Abstract

Voltage stability for the past two decades and still a major concern in planning and operating of electric power systems.

Voltage instability and collapse have resulted in several major system failures (blackouts) in many solid networks in industrial countries.

Maintaining load-bus voltage within specified limits include many facets of operation and control.

As such generator controls, transmission network reactive power compensation, etc.

In transmission networks, series reactive power loss is of great relevance to voltage variations.

Series compensation for long been used in EHV networks for increasing transmission capability of lines, and inherently reducing series reactive power loss (SRPL).

This study introduces a method, to find the-location of series capacitors to minimize the total (SRPL) in a power system.

A developed indicator (loss) is introduced to calculate the decrease in (SRPL) as a result of series compensation, the proposed method is implemented on the 400-KV Iraqi National Grid(ING).

Different line models, simply and fully represented been used in the analysis along with different loading conditions.

Results for selective load buses are presented concluding the effectiveness of the proposed method on the bus voltage.
