English Abstract

The study of the load behavior and characteristics is important for planning, design, management and load forecasting.

Present investigations appeal primarily to the load behavior and characteristics of medium voltage distribution feeders operating at llkV and supplying different areas in the Baghdad city.

Basic factors describing the load behavior and characteristics were defined.

A large amount of information about the load is gathered over a long period of time (All seasons of the year) for several 33/1 lkV substations from the electrical energy distribution authority of Baghdad city.

These collected data are used in the study of peak load curve and determination of basic features and characteristics of various llkV feeders.

The annual load duration curve is constructed.

The annual energy losses, area under this curve, load factor and loss factor are calculated.

Also mathematical relationships are found by using curve fitting technique, the first relationship describing the load factor and the loss factor with variation of the annual peak load timing, and the second describes these factors with variation of the annual maximum demand.

Mathematical models of daily loads for both summer and winter seasons as well as for holidays and other days were presented and tested.

This investigation included real data of the required and supplied load in Baghdad city.

Two models for long term load forecasting are presented and used.

The first model used the artificial neural networks (ANNs) and the second model used the curve fitting technique.

It is found that both models could be used successfully for peak load forecasting.

However the ANNs model gave better results than the curve fitting model because the lower value of percentage error and the ANNs model provided the possibility of load forecasting for longer time periods.
