English Abstract

This work deals with the design and implementation of a personal computer based system for the interpretation of Electrocardiogram signals.

The system presented follows the American Heart Association (AHA) recommended performance standards for electrocardiographic instrumentation and it consists of three basic units which are transduction and signal conditioning unit, interfacing unit and processing unit.

The importance of the system is to provide a reported ECG recording, to the general physicians, and paramedical staff which is useful in emergency situations when no cardiologists available.

The system also offer documentation facility, data can be stored and processed at any time as required, A database can be created to contain all necessary data related to subjects undergoing tests.

Information may be stored and retrieved in any form whether in print form or graphical output whenever required.

The system could also be used for simulating ECG signals of different types of cardiac arrhythmia, which is useful for : A.

Teaching medical students.

Testing (he ECG signals analysis algorithms The proposed method for ECG abnormalities detection is based on a previous method, which was improved on, and its capability of detection was increased from 12 to 22 types of ECG abnormalities.

Different medical criteria were used in making the diagnostic decision they were taken from medical books and also gained by consulting the cardiologists.
