English Abstract

The behavior of crushed stone columns stabilized with 5 % dry or slurry lime and reinforced with different patterns has been investigated.

The investigation was carried out through small scale laboratory models and full scale tests.

The laboratory model tests were carried out on a bed of soft clay prepared in steel containers with dimensions 700mm x 700mm x 500mm and 850mm x 850mm x 610mm.

The stone columns were constructed carefully with diameter 56mm and length ranging from 260370mm.

The improvements used were crushed stone, crushed stone + S % dry lime, crushed stone + 5 % slurry lime, crushed stone + 5 % dry lime + R, reinforcement, (consisting of a base plate 52mm diameter and a central shaft 6mm diameter), crushed stone ± 5 % slurry lime -3- Rt reinforcement, crushed stone + 5 % dry lime + H2 reinforcement (consists of two base plates, twice the diameter apart), crushed stone + 5 % slurry lime + R, reinforcement, crushed stone + 5? % dry lime +R3 reinforcement (consists of three base plates, twice the diameter apart) and crushed stone +5 % slurry lime +R3 reinforcement The laboratory model test results revealed that the crushed stone, crushed stone +5% dry lime, crushed stone +5%slurry lime> crushed stone +5% dry lime +RX reinforcement crushed stone +5% slurry lime + Rj reinforcement, crushed stone +5% dry lime - Rj reinforcement, crushed stone +5% slurry lime + R2 reinforcement, crushed stone +5% dry lime + R3 reinforcement and crushed stone + S % slurry lime +R3 reinforcement provide and increase in the ratio of (q / qJ of L4f 1.9, L7,2.15,1.8,2.45, 2.14, 2,64 and 2.4 respectively.

The field tests carried out in AL-Brahmin mosque site with dimensions Length = 3.0m and diameter of 0.5m improved by crushed stone, crushed stone + S % dry lime, crashed stone +$ % dry lime + R, reinforcement and crushed stone +5 % dry lime + R3 reinforcement provide an increase in qt / qu of 1.2,1 J, 1.43 and 2.19 respectively.

The two categories of model tests exhibited pronounced reduction in the final settlements that depends on the type of improvement.
