English Abstract

Dairy wastes differ from most municipal and industrial wastes in that the} are usually relatively highly concentrated and voluminous.

Biochemical oxygen demand can vary from about 300 ppm to over 4000 ppm.

The strength of the wastewater is usually governed by the spillage and losses of raw milk and other dairy products.

While the volume of wastewater is usually due to spillage & losses of process waters by ill-maintenance and the use of old machines A comprehensive field survey was carried to estimate the pollution loads of the discharges from the Abu- Grab dairy factories, and the quantities of water supplies consumed within the above -mentioned factories.

The survey spanned over three years (1996-1998).

A complete statistical analyses was carried out on the data of the field I survey using computer programs Correlation and sleep- wise regression analyses were used to derive statistical models from which the individual contributions of dairy7 products to the total wastewater discharges and wafer supplies quantities were estimated.

An important insight into the nature of water supplies consumption and wastewater generation was possible by the analysis of the statistical models.

The results of this statistical analysis could be used in improving the management of water use within die plain and to estimate processing costs of dairy products.
