English Abstract
This study is devoted to investigate the behavior of reel angular reinforced concrete beams subjected to pure torsion .This involves 54 beams failing in pure torsion, which have been obtained from the literature.
Analytical work and computer programs have been developed to determine the Ultimate torsional resistance of these 54 beams by some code design methods (ACE 3ISM-89, ACI 318M-95, B.S S110-85 and EURO-89).
The main aim of this work is to determine the efficiency of each of these methods.
Basic comparisons are presented for the influence of major parameters on the efficiency of the different design methods ; ( / ') between 14.34-45.78 MPa, the width / depth (aspect) ratio of the beam between 0,307-1, {puffy) between 0.886-6.592 and (>,/:i) between 1.264-9.985.
Based on the results presented in this thesis, the existing code design methods when applied to all 54 tested beams with no code limitations, the ratio of (Tuiest / TrMlcu.) I ed to the conclusion that only the ACT 31S1M-89 design method can be considered essentially conservative with coefficient of variation of 26.81.
In contrast, the other code design methods are conservative for several beams with COV percentage values of 26.77, 26.74 and 21.66 for ACI 31 8M-95, B, S S110-S5 and EURO-89 respectively.
The latter which has the lowest COV value of code design methods was modified by a regression analysis which led to a proposed design method.
