English Abstract

The present investigation study into effect of centrifugal casting parameters and alloying additions on gray cast iron cylinder liners includes 1- Manufacturing horizontal centrifugal casting machine which has ability for mass production of cylinder liners in different sizes.

2- Manufacturing the mounds which are required for casting.

3- Preparing the sand linings (length lining, front lining and back lining) for mound used.

4- Drying the sand linings by using electric oven.

5- Producing by centrifugal easting samples under variable conditions to achieve better ones.

6- Producing by centrifugal casting samples with alloying additions Elements according to the chemical composition of original castings to Study the effect of these elements.

7-7- Producing by centrifugal casting samples with alloying element (Molybdenum) to improve the mechanical properties especially (wear resistance).

8- Producing by static easting samples with same conditions of steps (6-7).

9- All samples were tested by different methods to study the effect of Centrifugal casting parameters and alloying additions.

10- Classification and comparison of results of all tests.

11- From the tests, the following results were obtained : centrifugal casting is the casting method proper for cylinder liners.

-Optimum centrifugal conditions are achieved as in chapter 5.

- Most important additions of alloying elements are (Cn + Mo) to obtion fine pearlite.
