English Abstract

Transmission of high quality analog signals over optical fiber, instead of copper, Sinks demands; i critical choice of modulation technique lo achieve high performance, cost effectiveness and to avoid unnecessary bandwidth overhead penalties.

Pulse time modulation (PTM) techniques ire being increasingly employed lo overcome many of ill e problems associated with the traditional analog and digital modulation techniques.

Square wave frequency modulation SWFM) is a newly developed technique in PTM family, where it is a special type of pulse frequency modulation (PFM) technique.

The work presented in this thesis concerns with the analysis Design.

Implementation and testing of an optical communication system employing the SWFM technique.

Theoretical analysis for both the PFM and SWTM techniques bas been given from which it was shown that the; SWFM technique has superior advantages over the PFM technique terres of carrier frequency, transmission bandwidth, and baseband width.

Also noise performance of both techniques lias been tamed out both theoretically and experimentally, and the results showed up that output noise power produced (h; SWFM system could be less than cue quarter of that produced by the -M system.

In the design.

Different conditions have been introduced far each state of the irritate' mid receiver circuits.

The final design implemented has been achieved to satisfy' the requirements needed to be performed by the system taking into the availability of the required components in the market The system used designed to, transfer a video signal of 4MHz bandwidth modulating carrier frequency of 12 MHz with a frequency deviation of ± 7MHz, In addition a white noise and still images generators have been built and used to est the SWFM optical communication system Test nil this systaltic has been curried both lime and fennec domains 10 measure its performance.
