English Abstract

An integrated wireless / wired LAN network is becoming an important.

The reason for this is that it allows resources sharing and data transfer between the new wireless networks and the already established traditional wired networks.

In this dissertation, we developed an integrated mathematical model by integrating Packet Reservation Multiple Access (PRMA), one of the most wireless LAN protocols and Token Ring wired network protocol.

In order to do a numerical analysis for the proposed protocol, we built our own simulator using MATLAB 6.5.

Using PRMA-Token Ring mathematical model and our simulator we studied some factors that affect the performance of an integrated protocol PRMA-Token Ring, such as throughput and delay.

Taking under consideration the number of wired users, the number of wireless users, wired arrival rate, wireless arrival rate, the wireless traffic to wired traffic ratio (wireless-to-wired ratio), the wired traffic to wireless traffic ratio (wired-to-wireless ratio), and wireless-to-wired inbound channel slots.

Then we studied and compared the simulation performance of PRMA-Token Ring protocol and PRMA-CSMA / CD protocol.

In this dissertation we provided more information to determine the criteria in which the mentioned factors can lead a system in best or worst performance, or can lead a system to instability.
