English Abstract

Nowadays, Information Retrieval has become one of the most important issues for people with different needs.

Mathematicians, Engineers and Scientists search daily for mathematical expressions and formulas, and they are look to get a relevant result for their input queries.

Many systems have been developed to deal with mathematical formulas and expressions, but no well-defined system considers the equivalent rules and normalization of mathematical expressions.

In this research, a new information retrieval framework is presented to identify and extract mathematical expression, converting these expression into a normalized form that take in account the equivalency of mathematical expressions.

These equivalent rules are inserted by the administrator, and then storing all of these normalized forms of mathematical expressions in index table to speed up the search process for mathematical expressions.

In addition to that, most of mathematical functions and operators have been added to the framework which moves the system from Grammar Equivalence Rules (GER) to Expanded Grammar Equivalence Rules (EGER).

After building this framework using Java, Java CC and Mat lab, the relevancy of results for user query has been increased, and the index table reduces the time of searching for mathematical expressions.
