English Abstract

Although the literature had wide variety of researches focusing on supply chain management, the study of supply chain relationships has been comparatively overlooked.

Due to the importance of supply chain relationships as a constituent of the whole supply management endeavor, this study serves to fill a gap in the supply management literature with respect to supply management relationships.

Academics and practitioners try always to find ways to positively influence the relationships of a supply chain with the ultimate aim of enhancing the outcome of supply chain management.

This study investigates the possibility to enhance supply chain relationships through the use of Organizational Frames–the perspectives that managers have in mind of their organizations.

First, four distinguished frames and two characterizing attributes were identified and subjected to test and validation.

The second step was to investigate the impact of these frames being present in the minds of managers on supply chain relationships and its characterizing attributes.

Quantitative research in the form of a questionnaire survey was conducted to meet the research objectives.

The sample used for this study consists of 219 supply management functions from 29 different public and private organizations, represented by supply management professionals.

Most of the 219 respondents had corporate-wide decision-making responsibilities.

Confirmatory factor analyses provided evidence of adequate model fit and convergent and discriminant validity for the underlying variables and their respective factors in the model.

The conceptual model and the hypothesized relationships are tested using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM).

Support was found for the relationships between the following variables in the model : 1)The four proposed Organizational Frames were positively indented as frames which managers can refer to and use when manipulating relationships; these four frames constitute a repertoire of frames that decision makers can refer to and use when needed ; 2) Organizational Frames had a significant positive impact on Supply Chain Relationships; this implies that managers can deploy these frames according to the situation at hand and the counterpart in the relationship.

On the other hand two hypotheses concerning the characterizing attributes of supply chain relationships were abandoned due to high correlations between the two concepts.

The significance of these results for theory, practice and future research are discussed.
