English Abstract
Knowledge sharing within an organization is a positive force for the survival of an organization.
The movement of knowledge across individuals is directed by knowledge sharing behavior.
Subsequently, a crucial to understand and discover factors that motivate employees to share knowledge and their link to knowledge sharing behavior.
The main objective of this study is to investigate and make better understanding for the organizations of the motivational factors that affect employees’ knowledge-sharing behaviors within organizations, and to develop a theoretical framework of knowledge sharing that provides understanding of employees' motivations and demotivations for sharing knowledge in industrial sector in Jordan.
Addressing the knowledge gap, the study involves developing and testing a suggested model based on a theoretical framework in which extrinsic motivators, intrinsic motivators, control beliefs, organizational climate and cost demotivators are integrated with the theory of planned behavior (TPB). Through a field survey of 408 employees from 13 Jordanian Industrial organizations, research hypothesis confirm that intention to share knowledge and perceived behavioral control toward knowledge sharing positively affect knowledge sharing behaviors both for donation and collection.
The study also finds that intention to share knowledge is positively influenced by attitude, subjective norm and perceived behavioral control toward knowledge sharing.
Additionally, the study finds that intrinsic motivators (sense of self-worth, enjoyment in helping others and job satisfaction) have a positive effect on attitude toward knowledge sharing.
Also, the research reports a positive effect of organizational climate (trust, fairness, affiliation and innovativeness) on subjective norm toward knowledge sharing.
Control beliefs (facilitating conditions and knowledge self-efficacy) have a positive effect on perceived behavioral control toward knowledge sharing.
However, unexpectedly and interestingly the study findings indicate that extrinsic motivators (extrinsic rewards, reciprocal relationships and reputation enhancement) on and knowledge sharing costs (loss of knowledge power and codification effort) have no significant effect on attitude toward knowledge sharing.
These findings are discussed with respect to implications for knowledge sharing behavior research and managerial practices.
