English Abstract

For many organizations seeking to improve its performance, Information Technology (IT) constitutes major investment that, if not managed properly, may impair rather than enhance the strategic goal of its use.

The core theme of IT governance (ITG) is that IT and business professionals should design and implement proper strategies and mechanisms to ensure that technology truly serves the needs of business.

As the responsibility of ITG referred to the two main players "IT and business professionals", the quality of relationship between them is considered another factor affecting organizational performance.

In the context of Jordan Customs (JC) as an organization extensively invest in IT ; This study explores the impact of ITG structures, processes, and relational mechanisms on IT business relationship (IT-BR) in terms of trust, shared vision, and shared knowledge, and the impact of IT-BR on performance outcomes (PO).

The findings of this study indicated that the three dimensions of ITG “except ITG processes with trust” have significant effect on the components of IT-BR, and the dimensions of IT-BR, except trust, have impact on PO, which implies the importance of all dimensions of ITG on the enhancement of IT-BR and creating a kind of social alignment between IT and business people and eventually improving performance outcomes in terms of efficiency, effectiveness, and service quality.

Questionnaire survey method was used to collect primary data from employees working in JC’s headquarters that have diploma degree and above.

Structural equation models (SEMs) were used in the research to explore the direct impact of ITG mechanisms on ITXIV BR and the direct effect of IT-BR on PO.

Exploratory factor analysis and structural path analysis using EQS were performed to analyze data collected.
