English Abstract
The future of energy supply in Jordan is a high priority; Jordan is almost totally dependent on imported oil.
The domestic energy resources including oil and gas, cover only 3-4 % of the country's energy needs.
This study discusses the possibility of using Solar Air Cooling (SAC) technology for air-conditioning application to reduce the energy consumption in Jordan, as well as, to reduce Greenhouse Gases (GHG) emissions associated with the consumption of energy produced from fossil fuels.
Environmental and economic feasibility study has been done on the technology used in this work in two scenarios.
The results showed that the use of this technology is feasible with acceptable equity payback period at high electricity tariff; while the equity payback period is very long and not attractive at low electricity tariff.
Moreover, the result of the analysis of environmental feasibility has shown that the use of this technology reduces GHG compared with Vapor Compression Chillers (VCC) that use electricity.
