English Abstract

Seventeen Y-chromosome short tandem repeat (STR) loci, namely DYS456, DYS389-I, DYS390, DYS389-II, DYS458, DYS19, DYS385a, DYS385b, DYS393, DYS391, DYS439, DYS635, DYS392, TAGA H4, DYS437, DYS438, and DYS448 were analyzed in sample of 103 unrelated males, from 10 countries (Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Qatar, Oman, U.A.E, Bahrain, Kuwait, Iraq, Syria and Lebanon), The donors were chosen among individuals who are resident in Jordan.

103 different haplotypes were observed.

The Frequency of alleles found ranged from 1.1 for (DYS393, DYS391, DYS392, DYS385a, DYS385b, DYS437, DYS448, DYS635, DYS389-II and TAGA H4) to 78.0 for (DYS392), for the whole area of Arabian Gulf countries, Syria and Lebanon.

The genetic diversity values for each Y- chromosome STR, ranged from a minimum of 0.43 for (DYS392) to a maximum of 0.84 for (DYS458) with mean value equal 0.61.

The most diverse loci were DYS389-I, DYS437, DYS438, and TAGA H4, with heterogeneity of allele equal 61.0 %, and Diversity of 0.48.

The allele similarity to the model haplotype (as calculated by Y-utility software at probability equal 50 %) ranged from (0.0 %) to (94 %) with the mean value of (53.5%), the highest similarity (94 %) was for (SA-6, O-8, K-3) and lowest similarity (0.0 %) was for SY-3.

We calculated the Homogeneity for all countries, so the highest Homogeneity was in Oman (67 %), Qatar (65 %), Kuwait (58 %), Saudi Arabia (52 %), Bahrain (50 %), and the lower Homogeneity was in UAE (49 %), Lebanon (44 %), Iraq (43 %), Yemen (39 %), and Syria (33 %).

The minimal haplotype (Min Ht.) refers to the least of the most common frequencies (≥ 75 %) among the tested samples.

The Min Ht.

is composed of seven STR's which were observed in the Arabian Gulf countries, Syria and Lebanon samples equivalent to most commonly loci which, would be appear at this order, DYS391, DYS392, DYS393, DYS437, DYS438, DYS448, and TAGA H4, ranged from a minimum of 62.0 % for (DYS391), 63.1 for (DYS393), 66 % for (DYS448), 68.9 % for (DYS438), 72.7 % for (DYS437), 73.6 % for (TAGA H4), 78.0 for (DYS392) to a maximum of 78 % for ( DYS392) with mean value equal 69.1 %.

The Arabian Gulf countries, Syria and Lebanon model haplotype (calculated by Y-utility software at probability equal 50 %).

We compared the results which obtained from The Arabian Gulf countries, Syria and Lebanon, with the results that appeared from literature review form Turkey, Iran, Somali, and Bangladesh, were found the similarity as, (Turkey (35.5 %), Iran (23.5 %), Somali (23.5 %), and Bangladesh (34.5 %).
