English Abstract

MINDO-Forces method was used to calculate the optimized geometries, heats of formation, electron densities, entropies and dipole moments of formamide and form amidic acid.

It was found that formamide is more stable than formamide acid by 10.842 kcal / mol that were in agreement with the previous theoretical calculations.

The effect of substituents (OH, CN, N02, NH2, CH3, CF3, CHO) on the carbonyl carbon of formamide and form amidic acid were studied in order to investigate the relative stability of the tautomer's.

The geometrical parameters (bond lengths and bond angles) and dipole moments were found to be affected by the substituents especially at the position, where a substituent is attached. The stabilizing effect of the substituents on formamide and form amidic acid system were determined by Gibbs free energy and isoseismic reactions.

Result are compared with the previous work on the nitrogen of formamide and form amidic acid.
