English Abstract

The main purpose of this study was to investigate the Status of Using Internet in EFL teaching in private secondary schools in Jordan from teachers' perspectives.

The population of the study consisted of all EFL teachers in private secondary schools in Amman during the first semester of the academic year 2006/2007.The sample of the study consisted of (120) EFL teachers ;( 53) females (67) males. The study attempted to answer the following questions : 1- To what extent are private secondary schools English language teachers familiar with Internet? 2- To what extent do EFL teachers use Internet in EFL classrooms? 3- Are Jordanian private secondary school English language teachers aware of the benefits of using the Internet in EFL classrooms? 4- Is the use of Internet at Jordanian private secondary schools' EFL teachers affected by gender, qualification and experience? After distributing and collecting the questionnaires of the study, the results were analyzed using t-test Scheffe post hoc test.

The findings of the study indicated that some of the EFL teachers are familiar occasionally with Internet use.

Many teachers have positive attitudes towards integrating modern technology in EFL teaching.

Also the findings of the study indicated the wide extent of awareness of the teachers of the benefit of Internet in EFL classrooms.

The study showed a gap between the current private schools situation and the rest of the society in relation to Internet.

The findings also revealed significant differences in the study attributed to gender, experience and qualification. In the light of the findings of the study, the researcher recommended that future studies should investigate public schools teachers in Jordan and then compare them to the results of this study.

He also recommended further research investigating the Internet use of EFL teachers at other levels, like basic levels, or other educational settings, in order to obtain a clear and complete picture of Jordan EFL teachers' use of Internet in their instruction.
