English Abstract

All-optical wavelength conversion means that the optical signal is in the optical domain throughout the conversion process in the optical communication system.

Significant advances in optical and electronic device technologies have made wavelength conversion feasible.

Several different techniques have been demonstrated to perform wavelength conversion.

A classification and comparison of these techniques is provided in this thesis.

The present work is an important one because it describes and studies a new and advance technique which is used recently in optical fiber communication.

This technique is based on the use of all-optical wavelength converter (WC) in WDM.

Results of this study is significant in providing the researchers in optical communication ideas about many factors, such as, blocking probabilities, performance improvement of network by using WC, effects of the number of hops, and network performance at different topologies with different size. Theoretical study and analysis, and future works are also presented in this work.
