English Abstract

The Rake receiver is a spread spectrum receiver that is able to track and modulate resolvable multipath components.

It allows a number of independently fading echoes to be isolated, and the effects of multipath fading can be combated or exploited to an advantage.

A Rake receiver can combine the delayed replicas of the transmitted signal to improve reception quality.

Rake receiver is essentially a sophisticated time diversity technique used for wideband cellular radio systems which uses code division multiple access (CDMA) techniques.

This thesis attempts to model a Rake receiver structure consisting of a reasonable number of branches (fingers) for practical use, where each branch provides a correlation receiver.

The modeling of the Rake receiver includes in the first place preparing a chosen transmitted spread spectrum signal with CDMA properties and the channel fading effects over a wideband signal.

This thesis will give a performance analysis and evaluation for such a receiver.
