In Toni Morrison’s Beloved, the past, the present, and the future of the characters are interrelated, and this interrelation has a deep impact on the characters of the novel, namely, Sethe, and Denver.

This study focuses on the character of Denver, and how she struggles to overcome the bitterness of the past in search for a brighter future.

The study traces the development of Denver in her attempts to pave a better future for herself and an entire generation of African American women.
