English Abstract

The influence of several concentrations of calcium chloride applied on apple fruits after harvesting as protecting material from bitter pit incidence for Zanouneh and Tarawneh orchards were tested.

The investigations were conducted during the storage period in a cold room at Zanouneh private store room in Al-Shoubak area.

The ‘Golden Delicious’ and ‘Starking’ apple cultivars were budded on MM 106.

The results revealed that small fruits had a higher total soluble solids.

titratable acidity and water loss than large fruits.

Furthermore, fruits of Tarawneh orchard also had a higher total soluble solids and titratable acidity compared with Zanouneh orchard.

On the other hand, ‘Starking’ had higher titratable acidity and water loss than ?Golden Delicious’.

Fruit firmness was higher in small fruits compared with the large ones, and was not affected by cultivars and orchards.

Calcium content was affected by fruit sizes; small fruit had higher calcium content than large ones.

On the other hand, calcium content was not influenced by cultivars and orchards.

Fruits of ?Golden Delicious’ were more susceptible to bitter pit incidence and infection compared with ‘Starking’ and small fruits.

At the same time, bitter pit incidence and infection percentage was not significantly affected by orchards.

The total soluble solids, firmness and calcium content were significantly increased by application of different calcium chloride concentrations that improved fruit quality.

Applied calcium chloride concentration decreased the percentage of bitter pit incidence and infection.
