English Abstract
This study aimed to assess the environmental impact of King Hussein Bin Talal Development Area (KHBTDA) on the natural resource (water, soil) in the area using DRASTIC index was used in combination with GIS to assess the groundwater vulnerability contamination.
It was found that more than 78 % of the study area has a moderate groundwater vulnerability to contamination.
In order to assess surface water susceptibility to pollution, a GIS based model was implemented.
This model takes into consideration, the slope, soil type, land cover and distances to Wadis into consideration.
Based on this model, it was found that KHBTDA has the highest surface water susceptibility to pollution.
Based on the research findings regarding the surface water susceptibility to pollution the flow direction of surface water has been generated through the use of USGS DEM for the area.
Both models were linked together in order to assess the soil vulnerability to contamination.
It was found that surface water will reach the surrounding areas around KHBTDA after passing through the area.
This indicates that soils in the area are also vulnerable to contamination if the surface water carries contaminants from KHBTDA.
