English Abstract
The objective of this work is to compare two types of diffusers and to know which one is most appropriate for thermal comfort and indoor air quality with an office room. In this work, two types of diffusers are used: grill diffuser and square ceiling diffuser to study the effect each type on Air Diffusion Performance Index (ADPI) and then on thermal comfort.
In order to do this the following parameter are changed: the number of inlet, the locations of inlet, the number of outlet, the locations of outlet and supply airflow rate and supply air temperature to verify the case of suitable ADPI that most appropriate for thermal comfort and indoor air quality.
A numerical study of the continuity, the momentum and the energy equations together with the two equations of the RNG k-ɛ turbulence model is performed by using finite volumes method to transfer these equations from differential forms to algebraic forms which can be solved according to the SIMPLEC algorithm procedure.
A 3D developing flow was solved using CFD software FLUENT 6.3. At the first, IEA standard test room with Hesco nozzle diffuser was used for verification the direct description method that was used to model grill and square ceiling diffusers, and good agreement was obtained compared with the results from previous authors.
As a final results it was found that the best case is with single grill diffuser near ceiling and outlet is on ceiling near grill diffuser for intermediate range of air flow rate and temperature that lead to small difference of temperature for height and ADPI is equal to 89 %.
