دراسة في منهج ابن دريد الأزدي في كتابه "الاشتقاق"

Abstract EN

This study attempts to examine a prominent figure in the Islamic Intellectual movement, specifically in the Abbasid Era, and that is Ibn Duraid Al-Azdi's approach in his book "Al-Ishtiqaq" (Derivation).

The study investigated the following: Introducing Ibn Duraid in terms of his ancestry, upbringing, education and journeys, as well as introducing his aforementioned book in terms of origin of the title, reason of writing and earlier writers and later writers who followed his line of thought, and the methodology he followed in the writing of that book.

The study has relied on recent studies and resources, like "Al-Fahrest" (Index) by Ibn Al-Nadim and "Terrekh Baghdad" (History of Baghdad) by Al-Khatib Al-Baghdadi.

The study has concluded that Ibn Duraid was a pioneer in realizing the comprehensive view in knowledge through his extensive use of proofs from the Holly Quran, Hadith (sayings of the Prophet), poetry and Arab proverbs.

All were used to prove the origins of names derivation: names, clans, tribes and their battles.
