English Abstract
The objectives of this study were to find the most suitable methods of treating 02 disposing brine water resulting from the desalination processes used in the existing and future desalination plants in Jordan, through making a comparison study with the Brine disposal methods worldwide To realize the research objectives, all of the main current desalination plants in Jordan were visited.
And the related data were collected such as: design, production, operational conditions and duration, quality of product and feed water.
Also some of water samples were collected from input and output of these plants (such as: brine, feed and product water), after that these samples were analysed to determine the concentration of cations, anions and heavy metals. The produced brine of desalination plants was found to be disposed through discharging their load into the near wadies, which with time will lead to the deterioration in water quantity and envimment.
Dead sea can be used as a suitable site for disposal of brine, due to its high salinity, Accordingly, this study suggest to build a desalination plants in the vicinity of major Wadies that discharged into the Dead sea by closed pipes. In the remote eastern desert-areas the study suggests using the evaporation ponds techniques for brine disposal by utilizing the available solar energy.
Moreover, in these sites, it is suggested to add a new desalination unit to re-desalinate the produced brine to increase its salinity, and making the disposal process through evaporation basin easier.
Deep-well injection technique for brine disposal can be used in the desalination plants that used feed water of intermediate salinity such as (Al-Gweibeh desalination plant).
