Abstract EN
Samples of coarse bran, wheat husks, mill product wastes and backery product wastes were evaluated for metabolizable energy.
Determination of apparent metabolizable energy (AME), true metabolizable energy (TME) and their correction for zero nitrogen balance (AMEn, TMEn) were carried out.
Adult cockerels were forced-fed 35g of the tested material after 24 hrs fasting, then excreta were collected for 48 hrs.
The AME and AMEn values (Kcal/g DM) were 2.097 and 2.289 for coarse bran, 1.441 and 1.619 for wheat husks ,2.830 and 2.996 for mill product wastes and finally 2.400 and 3.163 for backery product wastes .
The TME and TMEn values (Kcal/g DM) were 2.688 and 2.026 for coarse bran, 2.032 and 1.356 for wheat husks, 3.421 and 2.758 for mill product wastes and finally 2.991 and 2.900 for backery product wastes.
The nitrogen retention value was measured by balance using adult cockerels and found to be negative.
AMEn values were higher than AME values, while the TMEn values were lower than their corresponding TME values .
It was concluded that the TME requirement of a bird equals 1.287 times of its AME or 1.130 times of its AMEn while the TMEn requirement equals 0.890 times of AMEn.
