Complications following suppurative otitis media

Abstract EN

Objective of the study:- to evaluate the complications of suppurative otitis media.

Design :- Prospective, evaluative study.

Site & duration :- Al-Sadder teaching hospital, department of otolaryngology, Kufa university, during the period between May 2005-July 2007.

Patients & methods :- 60 patients with clinically proved cases of supportive otitis media were subjected to thorough & meticulous evaluation by detailed history, physical examination (both structural & functional), radiological, audiological & bacteriological assessment.

Conclusions :- we concluded that complications of otitis media though an old disease, still presented frequently & need high suspicion index for diagnosis & effective treatment they were more commonly associated with chronic ear suppuration than acute form of the disease & paediatric age group is the most common age group affected.
