Abstract EN
The present study aims to identify the influence of social factors influencing international students' choice of the Jordanian public universities.
The population (n = 11633) consisted of international students studying at Jordanian public universities.
The sample (n = 281) was randomly selected from the students' population enrolling in the Jordan public universities.
A questionnaire (11 items) was developed and distributed to the target individuals.
The Statistical Program for Social Sciences (SPSS) was used to compute Chronbach alpha coefficient, means, and standard deviations of subjects’ responses.
As a result of the study, "Parents had significant effect in my university choice" was found to have the greatest effect (M=3.91) on international student enrollment.
The analysis of demographic characteristics revealed that the great majority of international students enrolling in Jordan public universities were mostly from the Arab countries which was characterized by strong family ties where children still depend on their parents to manage their social affairs and financially support themselves.
So, it is typical to find that university choice was decided on in consultation with parents.
The study recommends that the decision makers in the public universities of Jordan direct advertising messages to parents as they are the basic reference for students, which is based in their decision to choose a university.
