القسط و هو جذور نبات Saussurea lappa الذي ينتمي للعائلة المركبة، و هو نبات موسمي ينمو في مرتفعات الهند و كشمير.
يستخدم الزيت المستخلص منه طبيا كقابض، و مطهر، و مضاد للالتهابات المختلفة، و هو يختلف عن نبات Costus spicatus الذي ينتمي لعائلة Costaceae، و هناك خلط بين النباتين Saussurea lapppa و Costus spicatus بسبب استخدام نفس الاسم العربي " القشط ".
بدراسة التركيب التشريحي لجذور النباتين موضع الدراسة أمكن حل هذه المشكلة موضحا الفروق التشريحية و التصنيفية بينهما، حيث ينتمي النبات الأول إلى النباتات ذات الفلقتين و الثاني إلى النباتات ذات الفلقة الواحدة.
Abstract EN
Costus is the root of Saussurea lappa, ((Decne.) C.B.Clarke.
Asteraceae), an aromatic perennial plant growing in the open slopes of India and Kashmir, its essential oil is used as tonic, stimulant and antiseptic differs from Costus spicatus (Jacq.) S.w., (Costaceae) belong to order Zingiberales.
There is a nomenclature confusion between Saussurea lappa and Costus spicatus, due to the uses of the same Arabic name "Costus".
It was found that both species are really separated from each other through anatomical investigations where the former belong to dicotolydoneae group and the latter to monocotolydoneae.
