Abstract EN

A case report of a 12-year-old child referred to the ophthalmology service from a general practitioner’s clinic because of a two-week history of headache and blurred vision.

Referral was recommended in order to rule out any ophthalmic problems that could account for his symptoms.

After a thorough ophthalmic examination including fundoscopy, he was found to have a typical fundus appearance indicative of hypertensive retinopathy.

Further investigation confirmed the diagnosis of pheochromocytoma.

This report demonstrates the value of fundoscopy for general practitioners and pediatricians in diagnosing life threatening medical disorders such as pheochromocytoma.
