Was there a historical revolution in linguistics ?

Abstract EN

The Present study aims at reconsidering some aspects of the lristorical periocl which extends from the late eighteenth century until the end of the nineteenth century .

It was hypothesized that the period witnessed a revolution in lingr-ristics as embodied in the linguists' achievements during that period concerning the subject matter, method and goal of linguistics .

This revolution may be similar to the structural and generative revolutions having taken place in this century .

What happened during that period was a replacement of a nonscientific traditional paradigm by a scientific historical one.

In other words, the study of languge became scientific for the first tirne .
